I knew I was destined to be an artist from the moment I picked up a crayon. I sold my first painting at the age of 16 and went on to college where I received a BA in fine Art with an emphasis in painting. I discovered polymer clay in 1984 while browsing in an art store. Although I was at the time a painter with an emphasis in watercolor and portraiture, this clay captured me immediately. I began by making gifts for my children. Teddy bears and dinosaurs were the going item and people literally asked to buy them off my kids ears and shirts. I then began to get requests for different animals and within six months Thumbprints Artwear was born. The name Thumbprints sprang from my jewelry itself. When I first started making jewelry with polymer, all my designs were tiny hand sculpted miniatures. As a result, my fingerprints made visible textures all over my designs. As my designs and techniques evolved, and I began caning more and more, I began to wear gloves to smooth away the imperfections that my thumbprints make. Yet all my jewelry is still made meticulously by hand, so the name has remained valid despite the change in technique. In 1995 I gave up my other job and have devoted myself to this art full time. My designs have expanded and grown through out the years but my passion to explore and experiment with this clay has been constant (click here to see my new sculptures). In the fall of 2005 I was filmed creating a vase for the HGTV show "That's Clever" airing Oct 7 Episode #HCLVR-110 (click here to see the Demo) My themes have emerged from my love of nature and spirit, humor and whimsy. My style comes from an intense desire to do the impossible with this diverse medium; to create a wearable art of immense detail and design. It is a labor of love, passion, and addiction.
